They set off armed with parental blessings and instructions on how to proceed during their educational journey. Sometimes these recommendations were written down and thus interesting sources were created as travel instructions. The author describes such instructions in connection with other works recommending travelling (apodemic literature) and compares the recommendations contained therein with information from correspondence, diaries and accounts.
