Product description

Author: Jacek Gutowski

‘Ceremonial Maces in Poland from the 16th to the 18th century’ is the first monograph in world literature devoted to modern ceremonial maces. The publication contains an extensive study of their symbols, typology and chronology, as well as decoration techniques. The topics discussed are illustrated by over 300 top-quality photos, detailing objects from Polish, Lithuanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Austrian, German, Danish, Swedish, etc. collections. The catalogue included approximately one hundred and fifty items related to the history of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The publication is the result of an exhibition organised in Wilanów at the turn of 2006 and 2007 and the research of the author, Jacek Gutowski, a collector and researcher.
